In 2013 EIGHT53 found themselves at a cross road after guitarist Roman Bilko and bassist Steve Giedosh left the band to pursue other projects and finish grad school. Initially, the concept of playing alternative rock without guitar was daunting, but they decided to try moving forward as a two piece. Playing a set at the Hawthorne Theatre solidified their decision to move on with just piano and drums.
